Person stabbed at Trump immigration policy protest in downtown L.A.
What started as a peaceful protest turned bloody in Los Angeles on Friday, as a group of students walked out of school for the fourth day to protest immigration policies set forth by President Donald Trump.
By 1:49 p.m., the LAPD confirmed a hispanic male had been stabbed at Grand Park, outside city hall. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of 2:20 p.m.
There were several hundred people outside the city hall at about 1:30 p.m. The demonstration was cleared by 1:50 p.m., police said.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the individuals involved in the brawl, including the person stabbed, were students, or if they were legal adults.
Since his first day back in office, Trump has signed a flurry of executive orders, giving the military a greater presence at the U.S.-Mexico border and the reduction of restrictions previously leveed against Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Under Trump’s new orders, ICE is now allowed to target migrants at sensitive locations, like schools and churches, for arrests and potential deportations.
